Lando Norris (McLaren) a fost cel mai rapid în prima sesiune de antrenamente libere din cadrul Marelui Premiu de Formula 1 al Australiei, care a fost marcată de ieșirea în decor a lui Alexander Albon (Williams).

Albon a scăpat nevătămat din acest incident, iar cursa s-a reluat după zece minute (timp în care au fost adunate resturile rămase pe pistă).
Thailandezul nu a fost singurul care a avut probleme pe circuitul de la Albert Park (Melbourne), majoritatea piloților ieșind în decor.
Prima sesiune a fost câștigată de Lando Norris (McLaren), iar Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) a fost cel mai rapid în cea de-a doua.
Max Verstappen a terminat de fiecare dată pe locul 2.
